So we today we traveled to the town of Cerveteri, the site of ancient Caere and the largest necropolis in the Mediterranean. It was about a one hour bus ride to the north of Rome. This area was home to the famous Etruscan Civilization (9th to 3rd centuries BC) that had such an influence on the Roman people. Practically everything that is currently know about their civilization comes from these tombs. We were actually allowed to enter all of the tombs and look around! So incredibly cool! We spent the better part of two hours exploring the tombs and enjoying the cool shade provided (it was crazy hot today).
Afterwards we went to a restaurant and ordered pizza again. This place had much more interesting pizza. The bread was thinner and harder, but I thought that it was even better than the pizza place we went to in Rome. We really didn't do all that much once we got back into Rome.
Tomorrow is the Vatican City. We have to wake up at 6:00 so that we can get a good spot in line... Ugggghhh! I should probably try to get more sleep than I have been getting the past few nights.
Peace
